The Lonely ISEE-3 satellite

Just a fun XKCD.com link for you.  The artist posted this strip on Monday.  The cartoon is about the International Sun/Earth Explorer (ISEE) -3 satellite, which is real, and in a heliocentric orbit.  I was only eight years old when it was launched in 1978.

Some of the story is true, while the actual hacking, so far as I know, isn’t.  But why not allow the public to gain access to the telemetry?  It’s not worth anything to either NASA or the ESA anyway.  Interesting, fun idea, at any rate…

From XKCD.com–go there. It’s stick-figure goodness. Click on picture to embiggen.
