Some Changes Coming

Typing

Hi!  If you’re reading this, thank you!  That means you deliberately chose to read my posts, and that takes some time.  So I’m writing this to tell you there will be changes to the number of posts on this site every week.  Why?

Well, that’s the good news–at least for me.  After one year and seven months, I finally found work, which requires more of my time and dedication than this site does.  The better news is that the kind of work I’m doing will, I think, inform my writing for this site even more.  If you’re curious about where I am working, just go take a look at my LinkedIn profile.  You’ll see the place, and I think you’ll agree it’s a good fit.  I am truly excited, because it’s not just a job, but it’s in a place that I want to be, with people that I like working alongside, doing the kind of work I want to do.

So, I’m pretty happy–and I’ll be starting work next Monday.  I am not sure what this means, as to how many posts I’ll get out on the site, but I will try to eventually get it squared away.  There will be more posts, though.

In case you are wondering, this blog was also an experiment.  I think I’ve mentioned that before.  I wanted to see if I could write for my own site day-to-day.  I think I’ve done pretty well.  But this blog was also my attempt to maybe control my destiny a bit more.  If people who needed writers see that I can write, maybe they’ll at least want to interview me.  And to my shock, this pseudo-strategy actually worked.

Clearancejobs.com was the first to reach out, after my site was online for about 4 months.  I’m still writing a few posts for them every now and then.  I also had a few contingent offers for technical writing, which probably would have been just dandy, too.  And my latest job will require not only my writing, but my writing about many different topics in the space industry.  I believe the job I’m now entering will require more thought, more insight, and an interest in space and where the industry is going.  That whole enchilada sounds like a lot of fun to me.  Plus, they’re paying me to do it.

I will admit, I was unemployed longer than I cared to be.  Certainly longer than I anticipated I would be.  If we hadn’t saved up, and if my wife hadn’t been working, things would have been much more difficult.  So if you are also unemployed, believe me when I say I understand some of what you’re going through.  I am lucky, but I think I made some of my own luck.  Yes, I am happy!  Yes, I am thankful!  And yes, I’ll keep writing, if not always here, than likely on Twitter.

Keep the shiny side up, and thank you!

  2. Congratulations! The new position looks like a perfect fit for the Space Foundation and for you. I do hope you’ll be able to continue to post occasionally: always an enjoyable, informative read. I found your blog after reading your ClearanceJobs post about the job search process. Thanks!
