Old footage of Soviet rocket launch attempts

Here’s at least one video, on Jalopnik’s page, of a failed launch.  Note, Jalopnik’s accompanying post of why the Soviets failed to get to the moon before the United States seems to be supposition, but likely true.  The Soviets made their equipment more complicated (see the article),  giving Murphy (or perhaps the Imp of the Perverse) more of a chance to have fun with them and make rockets go boom.

If you like exploding rockets and listening to unintelligible Soviet commentary as you watch, then again, this is your link.  There’s also an Ars Technica link in the “Related Articles” section of a post describing another failed Soviet space program: their attempts to build space shuttles.
