The inspiration for this article happened a few weeks ago. It’s not really related to space except that it did happen to me. Who knows, one of you might find it useful. Job-hunting can be so frustrating, especially in specialized fields, like space. And especially if a applicant tries to make a lateral move to something not so specialized. So, here’s a link to the article (it’s short): Dealing with Employment Rejection.
Another excellent post on ClearanceJobs.com, John. It’s been 2 1/2 years for me, and I’ve had plenty of the same type of rejection e-mails over that time.
It is very difficult to not take it personally, to devote hours upon hours to filling out applications, re-writing resumes and cover letters, phone and in-person interviews, only to have an impersonal e-mail convey the final contact from a company.
It is also disheartening to watch the bank account spiral ever lower, while going through all the “hoops” for a company, to no avail. And knowing the clearance non-use “grace period” is also drawing to a close.
I am finally employed in a completely different field, albeit at a much lower wage. I know my resume and accomplishments are still in many databases, and I honestly don’t know what I would do, if one of those companies actually offered me a position. It is an interesting thought experiment, though.
Good luck while you go through this period in your career. May it draw to a close sooner rather than later.
Peace

Thanks Matt! I’m glad you found some work, even if it’s a bit lower in pay.
