Pleiades, of course–at least according to this news release from Astrium. An island appeared off of Pakistan’s coast a few days ago right after an earthquake, according to this ABC posting. There were all sorts of strange things associated with it, which are detailed in the article. Not quite strange in a Jules Verne kind of way, but still interesting.
But then Astrium decided to see if they could get some great pictures of the new island with Pleiades, their sun-synchronous low earth orbiting satellites. And there you have it–a picture with good estimates of the size of the island within 24 hours of its appearance. It’s really weird, though, isn’t it? And a month too soon for Halloween.
